How to apply for a masters in Germany at IU?
Want to enrol in one of our postgraduate degree programmes or Master's degrees? Below is a step-by-step guide of the application process.
Remember! If you are a student from India, China or Vietnam – you may need an APS certificate to apply to study a Master's degree in Germany. Once you know what it is and how to obtain it, you can prepare to apply for the Master's degree of your choice at IU.
1. Get to know us

2. Choose your programme
Need more information on your preferred Master’s programme? Simply fill in your details in the form located on any of our study programme pages, or just click the “Request free information” button at the top of the page. We'll send you a personalised IU brochure, packed with essential information about your prospective studies, straight to your inbox.

3. Apply online with your documents
Once you are ready, it's time to apply online. Click on the 'Apply now' button to fill out and submit the online application form. You'll need to upload the documents required to be enrolled in your programme. You can find more information about these documents on the specific programme page. Don't worry - you can always save your application and return to it when you have everything.

4. Sign your contract
Once we've received your online application, you'll have access to your application overview page, where you'll find your personalised study contract. Read through, sign it digitally, and upload it.
This study contract details your study fees and starting date.
5. Pay the campus fee
The documents you have uploaded can be viewed in the checklist on your application overview page. We'll review them within five business days and send you a confirmation.
Once your application to IU has been accepted, you will receive the official Letter of Admission. You will then need to pay the one-time €1500 campus registration fee.
6. Apply for your student visa
With the Letter of Admission from IU, you can apply for a student visa* at your Embassy. Need help with the visa application process? We can connect you with our trusted visa partners, who will help you throughout this process – free of charge!
*Chinese, Indian, and Vietnamese students also need to provide an APS certificate for their student visa application. Please note that this may cause a delay in obtaining your visa.
7. Start your studies in Germany
Once you've arrived in Germany, you will need to enrol at one of our campuses. Then, you’ll receive an email with login details for all the systems you'll need during your studies:
The IU Learn app
myCampus, where you'll register for courses, receive updates, and gain access to events (and Syntea!)
Your student email
Your complimentary MS Office suite, including Teams, where you can chat with students and tutors
And that's it! You're now on your way to becoming an IU graduate, armed with a Master’s degree that can pave the way to exciting career opportunities in Germany!
