You’ve arrived in Germany and classes start in one week – now what? You’re in a new place with limited knowledge of the language, seeing new faces everywhere, and adjusting to a new sense of autonomy around your studies. Chances are, you’re feeling a little overwhelmed.

But there’s no need to worry! At IU, you’ll feel welcome and supported every step of the way – starting with Orientation Week. Here’s an overview of what you can look forward to when you’ve arrived in Germany.

Arriving in Germany: Next Steps

Enrol at one of our campuses

You’ll need to enrol in-person at the IU Student Office in Berlin or Bad Honnef. Make sure to bring along your documents for verification.

Get started at IU

Receive access to everything you need for your studies including myCampus, IU Learn App, IU email address, Office 365. During your first week at IU, you’ll also have an orientation programme.

Study, network and explore

Attend tutorials on campus 2-3 days a week, study the online materials, and take exams online or in-person. You'll also be able to work part-time and get access to our online career services and networking events.

Complete your studies

Hooray, you made it! If you complete your last six months on campus, you will be eligible for an 18-month post study visa so you can stay and look for a job in Germany.
