How our application process works
1. Get to know us and our programmes
If you’ve come to our website, that probably means you’re interested in getting a university degree. But you might not know which degree exactly, and you’re looking for more information before you make a decision.
That’s why our website is full of useful information, to help you make an educated decision that help you achieve your professional goals. You’ll find detailed information about each programme we offer through the navigation menu at the top of each page, in addition to general information about IU, our graduates, and how studying with us can help transform your career.
Still finding it hard to make a decision? Maybe these would help: see our list of accreditations and awards, read some of our student testimonials or maybe even chat with one of our students directly.
Finally, it’s important to note: if you are a student from India, China or Vietnam – you may need an APS certificate to apply to pursue a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Germany, both online and on-campus. Once you know what it is and how to obtain it, you can prepare to apply for the degree of your choice at IU!
So read up, and choose the right study programme you want to sign up for.
2. Choose your programme
Now that you got to know us and what we offer a bit better, and you know which degree you want to get, you can request our free of charge information material. Fill in your details in the form that’s a part of any of our study programme pages, or click on the “request free information” button at the top, and you’ll get a personally generated brochure with all of the facts and figures about your studies, delivered straight to your inbox.
If you still have a question that you can’t find the answer for in the information material, you could either:
- Talk to one of our study advisors. After you get the e-mail from us, one of our study advisors will call you within 24 hours, to help you out in case you have any questions. You can also just reach them on your own, if you prefer.
- Visit our FAQ section.
- Or attend one of our upcoming webinars – they're free of charge, you just need to sign up in advance.
Once you have all of the information you need, and you’re ready to start, the next step is to fill out our online application form.
3. Apply online
You can either fill out your application form with the help of our study advisors during your phone call, or at your own time and on your own, by using the “apply now” button at the top right corner of our website.
The online application form will guide you through every step of the process, but if you still have any questions – you can always reach out to our study advisors.
4. Sign your contract
Once you’ve submitted your application form, we will generate your personalised study contract. Read through it, sign it digitally and upload it to your personal upload page.
The contract contains your study fees, starting date, and a checklist of the application documents you need to submit in order to be successfully enrolled. It also includes the terms and conditions of being an IU student.
5. Upload your application documents
On your study start date, you will receive an e-mail with your login details to all of the systems you’ll be using during your studies:
- The IU Learn app
- myCampus, where you’ll register to courses, get updates, and have access to events
- Your student e-mail
- Your free MS Office suite, including TEAMS, where you can chat with students and tutors
6. Start your studies
The documents you need to submit depend on your study programme, and are indicated in the programme page on our website (under admission requirements), in our free information material and in the checklist in your contract.
You can use your personal upload page to upload all your documents – the link can be found in the e-mail you received along with your contract. Our admissions team will be notified once you’ve made an upload, and will review your documents within 5 business days.
To make sure that this process happens quickly and smoothly, we recommend uploading all of your documents at the same time. Need help or have a question about the requirements? Our study advisors will be happy to assist.
If we need any additional documents, or if you do not meet the admission requirements, you will be notified by our admissions team. If you’ve submitted everything and your application has been approved, congratulations! You’ve been successfully enrolled. Now it’s on to the final step.
That’s it – now you have everything you need, and the time has come to start your exciting academic journey!
But don’t worry, you’re not on your own. Our study coaches are available at the click of a button, to support you throughout your entire studies.
You can also use a wide variety of career support services during your studies, such as job interview preparation sessions or resume building workshops.
In the meantime, why not familiarise yourself with the professors in charge of your degree programme?
Good luck, and welcome to IU!
Entry requirements - All you need to know
In order to meet the IU admission requirements, you’ll need to first choose your study programme, as the requirements differ depending on your programme and its ECTS credits model.
Some programmes require previous professional experience, while others require a previous degree in a relevant field or a secondary school diploma. When looking at the study programme page you’re interested in, scroll over to or click on the “Admission” section. That’s where you’ll find in-depth information on the academic requirements you need to fulfil when applying.
If you don’t meet some of the admission criteria – don’t worry! You can contact our Study Advisory Team, who will offer solutions on a case-by-case basis, and help you apply to the right Bachelor or Master study programme for you. Remember! If you are a student from India, China or Vietnam – you may need an APS certificate to apply to study in Germany, both online and on-campus. Once you know what it is and how to obtain it, you can prepare to apply for the degree of your choice at IU!
