Entry Requirements

Entry requirements

To start your desired study programme on campus at IU International University of Applied Sciences, you will need to meet the general admission requirements and prove your English language competency. 

The admissions documents must be provided in English or German; if they were not issued in one of these two languages, an official translation is required. If you need to translate your documents, we’re happy to refer you to our trusted translation partners – find out more here.

Bachelor Programme Entry Requirements

General Admission Requirements:

  • Higher Secondary School Leaving Certificate such as A-Levels or IB Diploma and your transcript of records. 
  • A subject-related higher education entrance qualification. 

Depending on your qualifications, you might have to meet additional requirements, such as successfully passing a university entrance examination or attend a special program. For more information, please contact our student advisors.

English Language Skills: 

English is your native language or have you graduated from an English-speaking school or university 

We also accept the following certification if not older than 5 years: 

  • TOEFL (minimum 80 points) or  
  • IELTS (minimum Level 6) or  
  • Cambridge Certificate (minimum overall Grade B) or 
  • Duolingo English Test (minimum 95 points)  
  • Equivalent proof, such as a B2.2 Certificate from the free IU English course - further information can be requested from our student advisors. 

Master and MBA Programme Entry Requirements

General Admission Requirements:

  • Completed undergraduate degree from a public or officially recognised university/higher education institution.   
  • For 60-ECTS programmes, you will need to have already acquired 240 ECTS credits.  
  • For 120-ECTS programmes, you will need to have 180 ECTS credits.   
  • You must have achieved a final grade of at least “satisfactory” or Grade C equivalent (minumum 3,5 in the German grading scale) in your previous undergraduate degree 
  • In some cases: Proof of at least one year’s professional work experience completed prior to the start of the study programme. Work experience must have been gained after completion of your undergraduate studies and needs to be full-time (trainees are not accepted). Please note that in same case you might be asked to prove up to two years of work experience. 

English Language Skills:

Berlin Campus

International, dynamic, and progressive, Berlin is set to become Europe’s leading start-up hub and entrepreneurial capital. With a multinational population of around 3.5 million, the city is a powerhouse for networking and collaboration.

The IU campus is right in the heart of Berlin, with around 2000 students studying in the cultural hotspot. Students have access to libraries and facilities across the city and we are happy to support in finding accommodation in Berlin.  

Bad Honnef Campus

The picturesque town of Bad Honnef is situated in North Rhine-Westphalia, one of Germany’s most beautiful regions. It offers amazing scenery, and the cultural centres of Cologne and Bonn are just 30 minutes away by train.

The IU campus offers the most modern facilities housed in a mixture of historic and contemporary buildings. There is WiFi across campus, bars and restaurants for students to relax, and many sports clubs and societies for students to join. With IU's on-campus student accommodation, you’ll quickly feel at home.
